setting and your lifestyle. There are carpets

where fashion and function are both important in
your selections.

offer consumers a wider selection of patterns,
textures and colors than ever before.
Advancements in fiber technology and carpet
construction are making carpets softer, more
stain-resistant and helping carpets retain their
like-new appearance far better than ever before.
Berber carpets, patterned
carpets and textured cut pile Saxony are among
the most popular choices with homeowners
today.Even carpet cushions have dramatically
been improved. Carpet cushions are now available
that will block spills from penetrating the
cushion and soaking into the sub-floor as well
as eliminating odors in your carpet.

children's knees.

not be permitted with hard surfaces floors.

go over a variety of substrates and on all
grade levels, even concrete slabs in
basements.

less than some of the hard surface products.

Overview of Carpet Types
Having
a basic understanding of the various types of
carpet construction will help you determine the
best carpets for your specific situation. For
example, some types of carpets do better in high
traffic areas than others. Some carpets have a
more casual appearance while others look more
formal.
Carpet is basically
constructed in two types of piles: loop pile
or cut pile. Patterned carpet is a
combination of both loop and cut yarns or
variations of loops set to different pile
heights.
Today's carpet
manufacturers and fiber producers are combining
softer fibers and better built-in stain
resistance with special backings that block
odors, spills and more! These types of features
are built-in to many of better quality carpets
offered by the leading carpet manufacturers.
Most carpet today is
tufted, rather than woven. The tufting process
is similar to using a large sewing machine that
is about 13 feet wide with 100 of needles that
sew the yarn into a synthetic backing. The
majority of carpet sold today are made from
nylon fibers twisted into yarns and then tufted
into carpet.
How long a carpet will
retain it's like new texture and appearance is
based on the type of fiber, how tight the yarns
are twisted and heat set, and the pile density.
Also, how
tightly the tufts are packed together will also
effect the long term durability of a carpet.
Obviously, by not cleaning your carpets
regularly, or by using improper cleaning methods
will affect the appearance and life of your
carpet as well.
Berber Carpet
Berber carpets are
really just big loops of yarn. Berbers are
generally made from polypropylene or wool and
are ideal for active areas of the home. that are
either produced in a level loop, or multi-level
loop carpet construction. Berber carpets are
available in several styles including level
loop, multi-level loops, or cut pile
construction.
